ACC - Women In Cardiology

Welcome to the American College of Cardiology's

Women in Cardiology Web Site

Thank you for joining us for WIC Events at ACC.09.

Our next set of events will be during ACC.10 in Atlanta.

The 2010 Brown Bag Lunch Session will feature Dr. Susan Wood, former Director at the US Dept of Health & Human Services Office on Women's Health, and current Executive Director of the Jacobs Institute of Women's Health. The title of her talk will be "Navigating Your Career: How to Handle Roadblocks and Detours."  It will take place at noon on Sunday, March 14, 2010 in the Convention Center, Room A314.

Women in Cardiology Section Meeting.  This is an excellent opportunity to network with other women who share some of the same interests and challenges as they relate to mentoring, personal and family issues, career choices and participation in leadership in your practice/institution and in the ACC. There will also be opportunity to get more involved with the Women’s Section by learning more about and supporting one of its many initiatives.  The next Section Meeting will be on Saturday, March 13, 2010, 4:30-5:30pm, at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis, Room A601.

Newly Elected Women FACC Reception.  A reception honoring Newly Elected Women Fellows will be held on Monday, March 15, 2010, prior to Convocation, at 4:30pm, at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis, Pulse Loft.

Section Initiatives include:

Networking

The Women’s Section provides an opportunity to be involved and have interaction with other women in the cardiovascular field.  Meetings and receptions are held at least two times per year, at the ACC annual scientific sessions and the AHA annual scientific sessions. Are you interested in hosting a local get together? Staff is available to help coordinate.  Please contact Kelly Ventura at kventura@acc.org.

Virtual Mentoring Program

The virtual mentoring program is an on-line forum with the purpose of promoting the professional growth of women physicians in the field of cardiology. It has been designed to link fellows who are in cardiology training programs and early career cardiologists with established cardiologists who are willing to share their knowledge and experience.

The value of this program is in the section members who volunteer their time as mentors and in the benefits young women receive in learning from them.  Sign up today as a mentor by visiting on line at http://accementor.acc.org/?room=WIC.

 Visiting Professor Program

The goal of the program is to encourage women in medical school to enter the field of cardiology.  How does it work? Section members volunteer to be guest speakers at Internal Medicine Residency Programs.  They will visit schools to speak, to give a lecture at grand rounds or another suitable venue, and attend either a lunch or dinner with interested women.

The value of this program lies in the section members who identify opportunities to engage female internal medicine residents and medical school students.  Staff is available to assist in coordinating the visit.  To arrange a visiting professor program please contact Kelly Ventura at kventura@acc.org.
